New Year Brings Changes to Comstock ISD

Posted Date: 01/10/2025

Comstock Family,

One certainty about life is that there is always change. Changes in weather. Changes in circumstances. In our case there have been leadership changes here at CISD!

Mr. Wineinger, our superintendent, has taken another superintendent post in Bremond ISD. His last day at the District was during the Christmas Break. This move was a surprise to all of us.

The CISD Board contacted me in December about serving as the interim superintendent for the District. We came to an agreement, and my first day with the District was January 6, 2025. Last semester, I was serving as interim counselor, interim principal, and interim superintendent for Grandfalls-Royalty ISD, so I am up to speed about what is expected of me during this transition time.

There are many of you that I know, although there are some that do not know me. For those that do not, I was an employee of the district for 22 years. Sixteen of those years, I served as superintendent. I retired in June of 2023. It is safe to say that I do know the district, but there are a lot of things that I must do to get caught up to speed on.

I need to mention that have changed recently:

  1. Mrs. Wineinger served as our special ed director. She has been replaced with Mrs. Veronica Oyama, who was our 3rd grade teacher. Mrs. Oyama has been replaced in the 3rd grade with Ms. Lizette Koog, who taught for the district in the past. If you have any questions about this change, please feel free to contact Mr. Boggess, our principal.

  1. Ms. Carolina Garcia left during Christmas. Her teaching duties were Spanish. Because we couldn't find a certified Spanish teacher, all those classes have been replaced with an online program. The students will be monitored in class by a Spanish speaking substitute. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Mr. Boggess, our principal. Ms. Garcia’s coaching duties have been taken over by Mr. Tyler Kennedy, who has been with the district for two years and has served as an assistant coach. For those parents that have girls in the athletic program, please know that we will NEVER send the girls on an athletic trip without a female sponsor on the bus. If you have any further questions, please contact Mr. Boggess, who is serving as Athletic Director.

Things that will NOT change:

  1. Before you ask, please know that I will not come out of retirement to serve as full time superintendent. There are still a lot of things that I want to do with Vickie and she is holding me to that. The CISD Board has asked me to help with the process of finding a permanent replacement for Mr. Wineinger. My estimation is that the Board will find a replacement that can start in June, to be ready for the 2025-2026 school year.

  1. We will continue all the procedures that were in place when Mr. Wineinger left. The only time a procedure will change is if It NEEDS to be changed in the best interest of our kids.  Mr. Boggess and I will make those decisions when appropriate.

Many times, change is painful and not something that we want to deal with. Having me serve as Interim Superintendent is not a huge change. It is my goal that the remainder of the school year be EXCELLENT!

Respectfully,

O.K. (Buddy) Wolfenbarger III
